Edited Content

The Edited Content area contains copies of existing Marketing Automation content that your organization’s users have customized. You can include edited content in campaigns and one-off emails or download it, just as you would with other content. To edit content, you must have the Administrator or Marketing Staff role, but all other users can use Edited Content as their permissions allow. Articles, Checklists, Deep Dives, and Quick Reads are the only Content Types available for editing.

Editing a piece of content creates a copy of it; the original piece remains unchanged. However, making further changes to a piece of edited content saves over the previous edited version. Edited Content displays in the Content Library along with all other content. Edited Content pieces display an orange banner and a pencil icon . Although edited pieces display the word [EDITED] in their titles in the Content Library, the word [EDITED] will not display when they are sent to contacts.

If a scheduled campaign contains a piece of Edited Content and you or someone else edits the content before the campaign is sent, the last edits made to the content will be included in the campaign. Before sending a campaign or one-off email containing Edited Content, make sure to proofread it carefully.

Important! Because written materials and images are usually protected by copyright, make sure you either own or have rights to share any text or images you include when editing content.

Edit Content

Editing a piece of content from the Content Library creates a copy of the original piece; it does not overwrite the original. After you save a piece of Edited Content, the original piece includes a list of all Edited Versions at the bottom of its Details page, including the version’s title, the date it was edited, and the username of the person who created it.

To edit a piece of content, do the following:

  1. Locate a piece of content from the Content Library and click the title or the Preview link to open its Details page. If necessary, you can narrow the list using the Search field, Sort Order dropdown, and/or View dropdown.
Note: You can only edit Articles, Checklists, Deep Dives, and Quick Reads.
  2. Click the Edit button.
  3. The Edit Content page opens. Edit the following field entries as needed:
  4. If you are hosting this edited content piece on your organization's website or blog, you can enter the content's URL in the Read More Link field to direct recipients to it when they click its Read More link. The URL you enter must begin with http:// or https://. If you leave this field blank, Applied will host the content for you and the Read More link will take recipients to the content's Applied-hosted location (as it does for Applied's content).
  5. Click Save and Continue to save the edited piece of content to the Edited Content area of the Content Library, or click Cancel to discard your edits. You are redirected to the Content Library, where you edited piece displays.
Note: Although edited pieces display the word [EDITED] in their titles in the Content Library, the word [EDITED] will not display when they are sent to contacts.

Modify a Piece of Edited Content

You can make additional edits to existing pieces of Edited Content if needed. Unlike your initial edits to a piece of Applied content, your updates to an Edited Content piece do not create a new copy of it. Rather, they replace the last saved version of the Edited Content piece. If you need to create another copy of the same piece of content, locate the original piece of Applied content and click the Edit button to create it.

If a scheduled campaign contains a piece of Edited Content and you or someone else edits the content before the campaign is sent, the last edits made to the content will be included in the campaign. The original piece of Applied content displays all Edited Versions on its Content Details page, including the date the Edited Content was last updated and the username of the person who made the changes.

To modify a piece of Edited Content, do the following:

  1. Navigate to Content Library > Edited Content.
  2. Locate the piece of content you want to edit. If necessary, you can narrow the list using the Search field, Sort Order dropdown, and/or View dropdown.
Note: You can only edit Articles, Checklists, Deep Dives, and Quick Reads.
  3. Click the content title or Preview link to open the content piece's Details page.
  4. The Edit Content page opens. Edit the following field entries as needed:
  6. Click Save and Continue to save your changes to this piece to the Edited Content area of the Content Library, or click Cancel to discard your edits without saving.
Note: Your updates overwrite the existing piece of Edited Content. To create another copy of the same content, you must use the Edit button on the original piece of Applied content.

Delete Content

You can only delete content that has never been sent in a campaign or a one-off email. Deleted content cannot be restored. If you must delete a piece of content that has already been sent (for example, to prevent recipients from receiving erroneous information), contact Applied Customer Support.

  1. Navigate to Content Library > Edited Content.
  2. Locate the piece of content that you want to delete. If necessary, you can narrow the list using the Search field, Sort Order dropdown, and/or View dropdown.
  3. Click the Preview link or the title of the content to open the Details screen.
  4. Click the Delete button.

Archive Edited Content

You can only archive content that has previously been sent. Archived content remains visible to recipients who have already received it, but it is not available for selection from the Content Library.

By default, archived content does not display in the Content Library > My Content area. To view it, select the Show Archived Content checkbox.

To archive or restore content, do one of the following:
