Lists allow you to create targeted audiences for your campaigns by adding contacts with similar characteristics. You can create manual or dynamic lists. Manual lists allow you to select individual contacts after performing a search and add or remove them as needed. Dynamic lists save your search criteria and can update automatically with the most current contacts who meet those criteria.
You must create a list before creating a campaign, because you cannot create a list during campaign creation. You can select multiple lists for the same campaign, but they must be the same type (i.e. you can use multiple client lists or employee lists but cannot combine the two on the same campaign). Lists in Draft status are not available for selection on campaigns; you must save them first.
When managing your own lists, you can only search and select from the contacts that you have permission to access in Applied Epic. If you have access to other user’s list(s), you can only send a campaign to contacts you have access to in Applied Epic. If you modify the search criteria for another user's list or copy their list, the search uses your Epic permissions, so the list membership may change if your permissions differ from the list creator's. If you edit the search criteria on another user's dynamic list, you must take ownership of the list. Manual lists retain their creators as owners, even if other users edit the search criteria. If you copy an existing list, you become the owner of the copied list. Users with an Admin role can export the contacts on a list to a CSV file from the List Detail page.
Consider the purpose of your campaign so that you can focus on relevant contacts and select the appropriate list type. You can create as many lists as you need, selecting from a wide range of criteria and combining them to target specific audiences. For example, you could create a list of personal auto clients for a campaign that provides safe driving tips, but you can also create a list of the same clients filtered by region for a campaign with tips for mountain driving. Lists automatically prevent duplicate contacts from being added.
Although you cannot delete lists once you have used them on a campaign, you can hide any list that you no longer need to use. Hidden lists can remain in use on existing campaigns, but they are no longer available for addition to campaigns. Hiding lists removes them from the default view on the Lists page, but you can display them by selecting the Show Hidden checkbox. Click the Show link to restore a hidden list to the default view and make it available for selection on campaigns again.
