This document provides a guide to all journal entries that should be generated at month-end and explains how to run reports to verify the journal entry figures.
Description: Summarizes agency bill items for the month, including amount due from clients, amount due to premium payable entities, and agency commission.

Description: Summarizes activity resulting from writing off a receivable balance.
Debits: The account associated with each write-off transaction. If the associated account is an Income account and the agency is not on an Accrual basis, the amount posts to Agency Bill Unearned Income instead.

Description: Summarizes direct bill invoicing and adjustment activity for agencies set to recognize direct bill income on an Accrual basis. Includes Direct Bill Commission Write-Off (below). To verify, add the total agency commission amount from the Production report and Write-Off report as defined below.
Debits: Direct Bill Commission Receivable (broken down by company/broker subaccount if agency is installed to post receivable by premium payable entity)
Credits: Direct Bill Income (broken down according to Income Posting Breakdown method)

Description: Summarizes the transfer of direct bill commissions from Cash on Account to the appropriate Direct Bill Income or Direct Bill Receivables required account. The Interagency Payable and Interagency Receivable entries only post if the Cash on Account receipt agency differs from the direct bill reconciliation statement agency.

Description: Applies only if binder bill transactions are enabled in your system and if your system is installed to recognize installment revenue immediately. Summarizes invoicing activity of deferred binder bill installment items where the Close Binder production month equals the month for which the entry is being generated.
Debits: Binder Bill Payable (broken out by premium payable entity subaccount)
Credits: Deferred Company Payables (broken out by premium payable entity subaccount), Deferred Broker Payables (broken out by premium payable entity subaccount), Interagency Deferred Broker Premium Payables (broken out by internal broker agency subaccount)

Description: Summarizes the activity for installment items that were originally deferred and are now current. Only applies if the system is set up to recognize installment revenue immediately.

Description: Summarizes the invoicing activity of deferred agency billed installment items where the Production Month equals the month for which the entry is generated. This only applies if your system is installed to recognize installment revenue immediately.
Debits: Deferred Receivables, Broker Commission Expense (broker retained commission for external brokers), Sharing Expense (broker retained commission for internal brokers)
Credits: Deferred Company Payables, Deferred Broker Premium Payables, Interagency Deferred Broker Premium Payables, Agency Bill Income (broken down according to Income Posting Breakdown method), Deferred Receivables (broker retained commission), Binder Bill Payables (broken out by premium payable entity subaccounts, only if open binder bill transactions exist)

Description: Summarizes invoicing activity of earned revenue for service fees for which the Accounting Month for the deferred schedule item equals the month for which the journal entry is generated. If a deferral schedule does not exist, the system uses the Accounting Month associated to each transaction.

Description: Summarizes all activity resulting from Fee transactions.

Credits: Offsetting account for each Fee transaction code. For Asset, Liability, and Equity accounts, this is totaled per agency. For Income and Expense accounts, it is broken down further. If the offsetting account is an Income account and agency commission is recognized on a Cash basis, the entry credits Unearned Income (per agency) instead.

Description: Summarizes internal broker commission payable activity resulting from agency and direct bill transactions. This includes any commission write-offs.
Debits: Sharing Expense (in transaction agency), Interagency Commission Receivable + transaction agency subaccount (in internal broker's agency), unless you are deferring commissions. Write-offs debit Interagency Deferred Commission Payable + broker agency subaccount (in the transaction agency) and Interagency Deferred Commission Receivable + transaction agency subaccount (in internal broker's agency).
Credits: Interagency Commission Payable + agency subaccount if the broker is associated to an agency (in transaction agency), Sharing Income + transaction agency subaccount (in internal broker's agency), unless you are deferring commissions. Write-offs credit Sharing Expense (in the transaction agency) and Sharing Income + transaction agency subaccount (in internal broker's agency).

Description: Summarizes all activity resulting from Miscellaneous User-Defined transactions.
Debits: Accounts Receivable
Credits: Offsetting account for each Miscellaneous User-Defined transaction code. For Asset, Liability, and Equity accounts, this is totaled per agency. For Income and Expense accounts, it is broken down further. If the offsetting account is an Income account and agency commission is recognized on a Cash basis, the entry credits Unearned Income (per agency) instead.
