Terminology Note: This document and the associated utility use the industry standard term "table." You may be more familiar with the term database (.DBF) when referring to this type of file. There has not been a change to TAM, only a change to the terminology.
DBMAINT combines three functions: reindex, pack, and scan files. Unlike previous versions of these utilities, they are accomplished in one pass. The utility reads the table once, and scans, packs and reindexes simultaneously. It is a 32-bit utility.
The most common way to run DBMAINT is from the Windows Start button. (See the links below.) It can also be run from Night Utility Job System.
Although your operating system allows database and text files to grow beyond 2GB, Applied Systems cannot fully support access to files of 2GB or greater. Accessing files of their size or greater within TAM can become unreliable due to the architectural limitations of the product. Applied Systems recommends that each agent regularly review the growth of his or her TAM-related data files and use the Archive and Purge utilities to keep these data files manageable and operating at peak efficiency. For more information, see Purge and Archive.
All users must exit TAM to execute this utility.
For instructions on running the utility, see Database Maintenance Process.
