Assign Program Access Rights 

For consistency and control of user rights, Security Manager is designed so that you assign rights on the group level and then add users to the group. You may also assign rights on the user level, but this is recommended only when a change is needed for an individual user.

Description of Icons

The following icons are used on the Program Access tab.

Group Icons User Icons
= Granted = Granted
= Not Granted   = Denied
  = Inherited by Group
   = Inheritable (nothing yet assigned or not granted)

Assign Rights to a Group

To assign the same rights to two or more users, add them to the same group and set up their rights at the group level.

Note: For information on adding an existing user to a group so that the user inherits group rights, see Add an Existing User to a Group.

  1. From Home Base, click Utilities.
  2. On the Utility Manager screen, open the System Administrative folder in the treeview.
  3. Select Security Manager.
  4. Click the arrow to continue.
  5. Select a group.

    Note:
    Groups cannot inherit rights; rights can only be granted or not granted at the group level.
  6. Click the Program Access tab.
  7. Select a program area from the list. Some areas are grouped together; you will need to click the plus sign to expand the list and see the individual areas.
  8. Click Grant to give access rights to the highlighted option(s). To set an access right to not granted, highlight the option and click Remove.
  9. Click Apply to save.

Grant or Deny Group Access to Entire Tree or Branch

  1. On the Security Manager screen, click the desired group.
  2. Click the Program Access tab.
  3. Right click in the treeview pane beneath the Program Access heading.

  1. Click Branch or Tree, and select Grant Full Access or Deny All Access.

    Note: Branch refers to all items included in the currently highlighted area of the treeview. Tree refers to all items listed in the treeview.
  2. Click Yes to confirm your selection.
  3. Click Apply to save changes and continue using Security Manager, or click OK to save changes and close Security Manager.

Copy an Existing Group's Rights

  1. From the Home Base click Utilities.
  2. On the Utility Manager screen, open the System Administrative folder in the treeview.
  3. Select Security Manager.
  4. Click the arrow to continue.
  5. Select a group, then right click on the selected group.
  6. Select Grant Same As.

    This option is also available on the Actions menu and on the toolbar grantsame.gif (1778 bytes).
  7. From the dropdown menu, select the group whose rights you want to copy to the selected group and click OK.
  8. Click OK to close Security Manager.

Assign Rights to a User

  1. From Home Base, click Utilities.
  2. On the Utility Manager screen, open the System Administrative folder in the treeview.
  3. Select Security Manager.
  4. Click the arrow to continue.
  5. Select a user.
  6. Click the Program Access tab.
  7. Select a program area from the list. Some areas are grouped together; you will need to click the plus sign to expand the list and see the individual areas.
  8. Click Grant to give access rights to the highlighted option(s). To set an access right to not granted, highlight the option and click Remove.
  9. Click Grant to give access rights to the highlighted option(s). Click Deny to prevent the user from accessing the option(s).
  10. Click Apply to save.
  11. Click OK to apply rights to entire program area.

Grant or Deny User Access to Entire Tree or Branch

  1. On the Security Manager screen, click the desired user.
  2. Click the Program Access tab.
  3. Right click in the treeview pane beneath the Program Access heading.

  1. Click Branch or Tree, and select Grant Full Access,  Deny All Access, or Inherit All Access.

    Note: Branch refers to all items included in the currently highlighted area of the treeview. Tree refers to all items listed in the treeview. Inherit means the user will automatically be granted the same access as the group that the user belongs to.
  2. Click Yes to confirm your selection.
  3. Click Apply to save changes and continue using Security Manager, or click OK to save changes and close Security Manager.

Copy an Existing User's Rights

  1. From Home Base, click Utilities.
  2. On the Utility Manager screen, open the System Administrative folder in the treeview.
  3. Select Security Manager.
  4. Click the arrow to continue.
  5. Select a user, then right click on the selected user.
  6. Select Grant Same As.

    This option is also available on the Actions menu and on the toolbar .
  7. From the dropdown menu, select the user whose rights you want to copy to the selected user.
  8. If you want to copy rights the user inherited from group memberships, click the Copy Group Membership checkbox to mark it. The usercode you are granting rights to is then added to the same groups.

    Note:
    If the usercode you are granting rights to already has rights granted to it, those rights are removed and replaced with the rights of the usercode from which you are copying. If the usercode is currently a member of a group, that membership remains.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Click OK to close Security Manager.
