Attachment Compression

Use the Attachment Compression utility to decompress attachments.

Note: All users must exit Applied TAM in order to run this utility, and depending on the number of users, it may take a long time to run.

Decompress Existing Attachments

Follow this workflow to decompress attachments that were previously compressed through Efiling so that you can access them outside of Applied TAM. For more information about attachment compression and Efiling, see Efiling Setup.

Note: Email attachments that were created under Attachments, Add, or Attach an E-mail cannot be decompressed with this utility.

If you have TAM files (program files, data, images) on more than one data volume, and those volumes are not mirrored, STOP and contact Software Support for assistance.

  1. If you are an on-premise Applied TAM user, click Start > Programs > Applied Systems > Utility Manager from the desktop.

If you are a TAMCloud user, click Start > Programs > Applied Utilities > Utility Manager from the desktop. You must access Utility Manager this way to run this utility.
  2. On the Utility Manager screen, open the System Administrative folder and select Attachment Compression.
  3. Click the arrow to continue.
  4. Click Decompress Attached Files.
  5. Click Start.
  6. When the process is complete, a verification message displays. Click OK.
  7. Click Cancel to return to the Utility Manager screen.

The status of the attachments can be verified under Utilities > System Administrative, Log Viewer. Click the arrow. In the first drop down box, select \TAM\UTILREC.DBF. Then, click Load File. The Operator ID, when it was run, what process was selected, and what process was completed displays.

Turn Off Compression

To turn off compression for new documents being added, do the following:

  1. From Home Base, click Tools from the menu bar.
  2. Click System Setup.
  3. Check the Efiling Encryption Off check box.
  4. Click OK to apply the change.

Click OK to acknowledge all users must exit and sign back into Applied TAM for the change to take effect.

Use this utility to decompress attachments previously compressed through Efiling so that you can access them from outside TAM. For more information, see Efiling Setup.

Note: Attachments excluded from this utility are emails and phone messages attached through TAM, as these are internal to TAM and cannot be accessed from outside of TAM. These attachments remain compressed.

This utility is also used to recompress previously decompressed files.
