Creating a Property Quote

Creating a property quote in the system is a multi-step workflow that includes entering quote information, entering risk detail, and reviewing carrier rates and quote details. This article provides you with the steps necessary to complete property quote from client creation to selecting a carrier rate and saving the property quote.

  1. Start by creating or locating a client from Desktop Navigation in Applied Rating Services
    1. To create a new client, click the New Client button on the options bar, click the Add button in the Client Information section, or click Client > New on the menubar. Then enter the client information and click OK.

      Note: If your brokerage has the Prefill license, use the Prefill feature located at the bottom to prefill the client information.
    2. To locate an existing client, complete one of the following workflows:
        1. Click Client > Locate on the menubar.
        2. Click the dropdown arrow to select other search criteria; click the plus sign to add additional search criteria if needed.
        3. Enter your search criteria in the Search field.
        4. Click the Locate button.
        5. In the Results list, select the client and click OK.
  2. Do one of the following to launch PropertyRater:
  1. The Quote information screen displays. Complete the following information:
    1. Policy Information: Select the Province, the Type of Policy, and the Effective Date for this property quote. The Province defaults based on the client information and Effective Date defaults to today’s date. The Type of Policy defaults to the first available policy type based on the carriers you are licensed to quote with and the policy types they support in the selected province.

      Below are the options available in the Type of Policy dropdown.
    1. Promutuel (If licensed for Promutuel in QC only): Choose the Promutuel company from the dropdown for the property quote if applicable

    2. Criminal History (QC only): Choose Yes or No to the question “Does anyone in the household have a criminal record?

  1. Click OK to continue with the property quote

    Click Exit to close the workflow without saving the information.

  2. The Additional Customer information screen displays only if the insurance carriers that your agency are licensed for uses a credit score to help assess risk and determine a premium.

  3. The Property Underwriting screen displays. The dwelling type you are quoting displays in the Location list along with additional details about the dwelling.

    The Insured tab contains policy-level information and the fields that display on this tab are the same for every dwelling type. Complete the following information on the Insured tab.

    1. Enter the Insured’s/Co-Insured’s DOB and Gender.

      If you select X/Unspecified as the Insured’s/Co-Insured’s Gender and a carrier does not support rates for Gender X, the system defaults those carrier rates to Female.

    2. Enter the Insured’s Occupation, Employment information and any Group Plans / Memberships the insured is part of. All carrier group tiers defined in the group plan you selected are applied to the appropriate carriers on the quote and are quoted simultaneously. Certain occupations may generate additional discounts.

      To maximize the age discount, enter the eldest insured.

    3. Enter the Number of NSFs and the Date of the last NSF, if applicable.

    4. Enter the date from which the applicant has had continuous property insurance, and the date from which they have been insured with their brokerage.

      Entering the Insured Since and the Insured with Brokerage Since dates could generate additional discounts.

    5. If applicable, select the applicant’s current property insurer and auto insurer, and enter the date from which they have been insured.

      Entering this information in could generate additional discounts.

    6. If applicable, select the Combined Policy and/or Apply for All Carriers checkbox. If either checkbox is checked, the Multi-Line Policy is automatically checked.

      Select the Apply for All Carriers checkbox to initiate renewals on all carriers quoted using the Current Insured Since dates.

The General and Additional tabs are for the specific dwelling information. Enter the appropriate information on the General and Additional tabs of the Property Underwriting screen for the following types of Property:

Note: Seasonal, Secondary Homeowners, Rented Dwelling, and Rented Condo are not true standalone policies. Rating assumes the existence of principal residence with the carrier.

Validation

  1. Additional Dwellings can be added to the quote by clicking the Add button  and selecting Homeowners, Condominiums, Tenants, Seasonal, Rented Dwelling, Rented Condo, or Secondary Homeowners from the dropdown menu.

    If you are adding a new Primary dwelling type to the quote, you are prompted to convert the current Primary dwelling into an available secondary type and confirm the new Primary dwelling and the dwelling conversion.

    Note: The options in the dropdown menu display only if the carriers you are licensed for in the selected province support that type of Additional Dwelling.

    The maximum number of dwellings on a quote is six (one primary, and five secondary dwellings of any combination) and multiple secondary dwellings of the same type can be added on the quote. Enter information for the secondary dwellings in the same way you would for the primary dwelling.

    You can easily switch between dwellings by selecting the dwelling in the Locations list. The information for the selected dwelling displays in the General and Additional tabs.
  2. Click the Quote button on the options bar or click Quote > Process Quote to quote the policy.
  3. The Premium Summary screen displays all company quotes.

    The following information displays in the columns on the Premium Summary screen:
  1. Click on the Carrier name next to the appropriate form on the Premium Summary screen or on the form under the appropriate carrier in the list of carriers that display on the left side of the screen to see the quote details for that company.

    The Carrier Detail screen for the company selected will display the details of the quote.

    Note: If there are Policy and/or Risk related messages that pertain to this quote for the selected company, a Message section displays below the Rates section. It is important to review them since they contain important information regarding the quote. For example, a risk may not qualify even though a quote was generated with the company; the messages displayed here will tell you whether or not they qualify.

    Completed quotes can be modified in the following ways:
  1. You have the option to complete the CSIO application with Applied Rating Services.
    1. Click the Hab App button on the options bar to launch the supplementary data screen.
    2. Click on each section of the CSIO application to fill out the information and questions that are presented on the screens for the application.
    3. Click Print if you have completed the CSIO application and are ready to print the CSIO application.

      Click Save & Exit if you did not fill out all the required information and wish to save the changes you made to the application.

      Click Cancel to close the screen without saving your changes.
