Message Class Configuration

When a file is sent through the Ivans Network, the company should attach a Message Class to the file so that Applied Epic can determine how to process the file. Applied Epic processes claims differently than policies and direct bill transactions, all of which are processed differently than screens and edits. Applied Epic needs to know what type of file is being sent in order to process it.

You should rarely, if ever, need to access this configuration screen—Applied Systems provides you the message classes that are supported by Download standards. You cannot edit, modify, or delete these message classes. Any files sent with either a blank or unsupported message class (one that is not defined in Message Class Configuration) will not be processed.

If there is an error on your Communication Log indicating that a download file cannot be properly processed and it is determined that the cause is a company sending a file with an unrecognized Message Class Code, a new entry should be added in the Message Class table.

If you experience difficulties with message class during the Download process, contact Applied Systems Customer Support to speak with a Support Technician.
