Link Configuration

The Links option gives users access to pertinent websites and third-party applications without having to exit Applied Epic. If your organization has purchased Applied Epic SDK, you can also pass information from an Epic screen to a website or to third-party software.

If you access Applied Epic through a web browser such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge, you must install all components of the Applied Epic Connection Suite to access all functionality on this page.

1. From the Home screen, do one of the following:
    
   • Click Configure on the navigation panel.
   • Click the down arrow next to Home on the menubar and select Configure.
   • Click Areas > Configure on the menubar.

From any other area of the program, do one of the following:

1. • Click the down arrow to the right of the Home options bar button and select Configure.
   • Click Home > Configure on the menubar. The Configure screen displays.

2. Click Links on the navigation panel or Areas > Links on the menubar.
3. Click the Links option beneath the navigation button.

You can do the following from here:

• Add a Link

  1. Do one of the following:

     • Click the Add button to the left of the list.

     • Click New > Link on the options bar.

     • Click File > New > Link on the menubar.

     • Press [Insert] on your keyboard.

  2. Enter a Description for the new link.

  3. For a website link, enter the web address in the Path/Address field. For external websites, you must enter the full URL (e.g., http://www.website.com or https://www.website.com).
     
     To add a link to an application, enter the path to the EXE file in the Path/Address field, or click the lookup button to the right of the field to browse for the file.
     
     Note: The lookup button is only available if Applied Epic is installed locally on your computer, not if you access Epic through a web browser.

  4. If your organization has purchased Applied Epic SDK, the Pass Information checkbox is enabled. Select the Pass information checkbox and enter the information in the Additional parameter field to export information from the screen from which the link is accessed to the website or third-party software.
     
     Note: This information is provided by the third-party site.
     
     When the link is clicked, Applied Epic determines whether client information is to be passed or not. If the link is not set to pass information, the system will launch the selected executable file or the default web browser.
     
     If the link is set up to pass information, Applied Epic verifies that the organization possesses a valid SDK license before launching the executable or website.  
     
     Note: To pass information to a third-party application, you must write Applied Epic SDK code for the third-party application.

  5. Create a digital certificate if applicable.
     Note: This option is only available if Applied Epic is installed locally on your computer, not if you access Epic through a web browser.

  6. Opt to add the link to All areas of Applied Epic, or only Selected areas. If you choose All, skip to step j.

  7. If you click the Selected radio button, click the Add button to the left of the Areas Available list.

  8. The Select Areas pop-up window displays. Change the areas that display if necessary.

     Use the search bar above the list to specify the area that you want to see.

     These are the choices available in the second dropdown menu:

     1. • Broker
        • Client
        • Company
        • Configure
        • Email
        • Employee
        • Finance Company
        • General Ledger
        • Homebase
        • Other Interest
        • Procedures
        • Reports/Marketing
        • Utilities
        • Vendor

     When you have made your selection, click Find or press [Enter].

  9. Select the checkbox next to each area that should contain the link.

  10. Click Finish or press [Enter] to add the areas and close the window.
      
      Click Add to add more areas.
      
      Click Cancel to close the window without saving any changes.
      
      To remove an area where a link should be available, select the area in the list and then click the Delete button or press [Delete].

  11. To add the link to the list for a specific group of employees, click the Add button to the left of the Group Memberships list. If you do not want to add any groups, skip to step n.

  12. The Add Group Memberships pop-up window displays. Select the checkbox next to each group that should contain the link, or click Select All at the top of the window to select all groups.
      
      Note: Groups must be added to the system before you can add a group membership.

  13. Click Finish or press [Enter] to add the areas and close the window.
      
      Click Add to add more areas.
      
      Click Cancel to close the window without saving any changes.
      
      To remove an area where a link should be available, select the area in the list and then click the Delete button or press [Delete].

  14. Click Finish or press [Enter].

• Edit a Link

  1. Click to highlight the link in the list.

  2. Do one of the following:

     • Click the Edit button to the left of the list.

     • Click File > Open on the menubar.

     • Double click the link.

     • Press [Enter].

  3. Revise the Description if necessary.

  4. For a website link, enter the web address in the Path/Address field.
     
     To add a link to an application, enter the path to the EXE file in the Path/Address field, or click the lookup to the right of the field to browse for the file. For external websites, this field must contain the full URL (e.g., http://www.website.com, or https://www.website.com for secure sites).
     
     Note: The lookup button is only available if Applied Epic is installed on your local computer (e.g., it is not available if you access Applied Epic through a web browser such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge).

  5. If your organization has purchased Applied Epic SDK, the Pass Information checkbox is enabled.   12. The Add group Memberships pop-up window displays. Select the checkbox next to each group that should contain the link, or click Select All at the top of the window to select all groups.
      
      Note: Groups must be added to the system before you can add a group membership.

  13. Click Finish or press [Enter] to add the areas and close the window.
      
      Click Add to add more areas.
      
      Click Cancel to close the window without saving any changes.
      
      To remove an area where a link should be available, select the area in the list and then click the Delete button or press [Delete].

  14. Click Finish or press [Enter].

• Delete a Link

  1. Click to highlight the link in the list.

  2. Do one of the following:

     • Click the Delete button to the left of the list.

     • Click File > Delete on the menubar.

     • Press [Delete] on your keyboard.

  3. You are prompted, "Do you wish to delete this record?" Click Yes.

• Print the List of Links
  1. To print the links list, do one of the following:
     • Click the Print button to the left of the list.
     • Click Print > Listview on the options bar.
     • Click File > Print > Listview on the menubar.
  2. Print this list as you would any other document.
