Claim Code Configuration

Claim codes are useful for reporting purposes, allowing you to categorize claims and monitor your organization's claim activity. You can associate claim codes to claim types in Claim Type Configuration.

Note: This article contains printing instructions that are only applicable if Applied Epic is installed locally on your computer. If you access Epic through a web browser such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge, you cannot print directly from within the system. See Printing for more information about the printing capabilities available from Epic Browser. All other steps in this article are applicable to both methods of accessing Epic unless stated otherwise.

From the Home screen, do one of the following:
- Click Configure on the navigation panel.
- Click the down arrow next to Home on the menubar and select Configure.
- Click Areas > Configure on the menubar.

From any other area of the program, do one of the following:

- Click the down arrow to the right of the Home options bar button and select Configure.
- Click Home > Configure on the menubar. The Configure screen displays.

Click Policy on the navigation panel or Areas > Policy on the menubar.
Click Claim Codes on the navigation panel.
A list of claim codes in your system displays. Ensure that Claim Codes is selected in the view filter. The ABI Codes view filter option is only applicable to brokerages in the United Kingdom.
To change the sort order, click the column heading.

Claim Codes

The claim codes you define here are available for selection from the Claim code dropdown menu when you add or edit a claim.

You can do the following from the Claim Codes list:

Add a Claim Code
1. Do one of the following:
  - Click the Add button to the left of the list.
  - Click New > Claim Codes on the options bar.
  - Click File > New > Claim Codes on the menubar.
  - Press [Insert] on your keyboard.
2. Enter the new Code in the field on the right.
3. The active language displays in the Language dropdown menu and is based on your Primary Language in Regional Settings Configuration.
4. Enter a Description for the code.
  1. If you have more than one language available, the Description you enter populates for every language.
  2. To change the Description that will display in a different language, select the Language from the list or the dropdown menu and enter a Description.
  3. The Update matching descriptions in other languages option defaults as checked or unchecked based on your previous selection for it. The option cannot be changed during this workflow.
5. Click Finish or press [Enter] to complete the record.
  
  Click Add to add this record and create another one.
  
  Click Cancel or press [Esc] to exit the workflow without saving changes. You are prompted, "Do you wish to discard changes?" Click Yes.
Edit a Claim Code
1. Click to highlight the claim code in the list and then do one of the following:
  - Click the Edit button to the left of the list.
  - Click File > Open on the menubar.
  - Double click the claim code.
2. Revise the Code as necessary.
3. Revise the Description as necessary.
  1. If the Update matching descriptions in other languages option is checked and descriptions for more than one language match, any change you make to one description will be applied to the other description after you click Finish. Deselect this box if you prefer to update each description individually.
4. Click Finish or press [Enter] to complete the record.
  
  Click Cancel or press [Esc] to exit the workflow without saving changes. You are prompted, "Do you wish to discard changes?" Click Yes.
Delete a Claim Code
1. Click to highlight the claim code in the list.
2. Do one of the following:
  - Click the Delete button to the left of the list.
  - Click File > Delete on the menubar.
  - Press [Delete] on your keyboard.
3. You are prompted, "Do you wish to delete this record?" Click Yes.
Inactivate/Reactivate a Claim Code
1. Click the claim code in the list.
2. Do one of the following:
3. You are prompted to confirm the action. Click Yes.
Print a List of Claim Codes
1. To print the list of claim codes, do one of the following:
  - Click the Print button to the left of the list.
  - Click Print > Listview on the options bar.
  - Click File > Print > Listview on the menubar.
2. Print this list as you would any other document.

ABI Codes

ABI codes are used by brokerages in the United Kingdom and are not applicable to North American organizations. To return to the Claim Codes list from the ABI Codes list, click on ABI Codes in the view filter and select Claim Codes.
