Creating an Auto Quote

Creating an auto quote in the system is a multi-step workflow that includes entering quote information, entering risk detail, and reviewing carrier rates and quote details. This article provides you with the steps necessary to complete an auto quote from client creation to selecting a carrier rate and saving the auto quote.

  1. To create an auto quote, begin by either creating or locating a client from Desktop Navigation in Applied Rating Services.

To create a new client, do one of the following:

Then, enter the client’s information and click OK.

Note: If your brokerage has the prefill licence, use the Prefill feature located at the bottom of the Add / Modify Client screen to prefill the client information.

To locate an existing client, complete one of the following workflows:

  1. Once you have created/located a client, do one of the following to launch AutoRater:
  1. The Quote information screen displays. Complete the following information:
    1. Policy Information: Select the Province, Vehicle type, and the Effective date for the auto quote. The province defaults based on the client’s information, and the effective date defaults to the current date.  

      Note: The vehicle type defaults to the first available vehicle type based on the carriers you are licensed to quote with and the vehicle types they support for the selected province unless there is a default set. To set the selected vehicle type as the default, check the Set as Default checkbox.
    2. Term Length: Check the 6 months checkbox to apply this term length to the automobile quote. 12 months defaults as selected and cannot be deselected.
    3. Multi-Vehicle: Choose to Enable or Disable multi-vehicles for the automobile quote.

      If a multi-vehicle discount is required when quoting a single vehicle, select Enable. If you select Disable, the Single Vehicle MVD option will be disabled and unselected on the Vehicles tab.
    4. Policy Discount: Select Combined Policy / Multi-Line, Multi-Line, or Disabled to determine the discount. If the discount applies to all carriers, check the checkbox.
    5. Web Discount: A web discount can be Included or Excluded for the automobile quote.

      Note: To set your choice as a default, check the Set as Default checkbox.
    6. Property Policy: If the client has an existing property policy enter the information here.

      Note: A policy type and a carrier is required to generate a Multi-line discount.
    7. Automatic Substitution of Limits/Deds

      Select the Substitution Type:

Note: To set your selection as the default substitution type, check the Set as Default checkbox.

    1. Commercial Property (Available for select provinces): If the client has an existing commercial property policy, enter the information here.
    2. Grid Level Calculation (Alberta only): Choose to Enable or Disable the grid level calculation.

      Note: To set your selection as the default, check the Set as Default checkbox.
    3. Grid Level Assignment (Alberta only): Choose to Enable or Disable the grid level assignment.

      Note: To set your selection as the default, check the Set as Default checkbox.
    4. Quote Type (AB only): Determine if the quote type is Standard or Re-marketing.

      Note: To set your selection as the default, check the Set as Default checkbox.
    5. Promutuel (If licensed for Promutuel in Québec only) Required: Choose the Promutuel carrier from the dropdown for the auto quote
    6. Criminal History (Québec only): Select Yes or No to the question Does anyone in the household have a criminal record?
  1. Click OK to continue with the auto quote, or click Exit to close the workflow without saving the information.
  2. The Information Prefill screen displays if you have the Prefill license.
  3. The Additional Customer Information screen displays only if the insurance carriers that your agency is licensed for use a credit score to help assess risk and determine a premium.
  4. The auto underwriting screen displays with the Vehicles tab selected. The vehicle type you selected on the Quote Information window displays in the Vehicles list.

    Enter the vehicle information for one of the following vehicle types:

To add an additional vehicle to the quote, click the Add button and select a vehicle type from the dropdown menu.

To delete a vehicle from the quote, select the vehicle in the Vehicles list, click the Delete button , and click Yes on the pop-up message to delete it.

To remove a vehicle from being included in the quote, select the Exclude checkbox that corresponds with the vehicle in the Vehicles list.

  1. Click the Drivers tab to define the drivers on the quote. By default, the name of the applicant on the client displays in the Drivers list.

    To enter information and details on the driver, do the following:

    1. Enter the Salutation, First, Middle, Last, and Suffix for the driver’s name.

    2. Select the driver's Relationship to Applicant, if the Applicant lives with Parents, Marital Status, Gender, Province and enter in the driver’s Licence Number.

      If you select X/Unspecified as the driver’s Gender and a carrier does not support rates for Gender X, the system defaults those carrier rates to Female.

      The Marital Status and Gender fields are required to be entered in order to process the quote.
    3. Click the Claims button to manage claims on this driver.

      Click the Add button  to add a new claim to this driver. Enter the Claim date, a Description, the vehicle involved, if the driver was At-Fault or Non-Responsible, Responsibility % (where applicable) and the TP/BI, TP/PD, AB, Coll, and Other PD amounts.

      To delete a claim, select a claim from the list and click the Delete button  to remove the claim for this driver.
    4. Click the Convictions button to manage convictions on this driver.

      Click the Add button  to add a new conviction to this driver. Enter the conviction date, a description and the number of km/h over the limit.

      To delete a conviction, select a conviction from the list and click the Delete button .
    5. Click the Suspensions button to manage suspensions for this driver.

      Click the Add button  to add a new licence suspension to this driver. Enter the Licence Suspension Date, the duration of the suspension (in months), the date the licence was re-instated and selecting a description reason for the suspension.

      Note: If a driver has had a suspended licence, remember to enter all convictions and lapses associated with the suspension.

      To delete a suspension, select a suspension from the list and click the delete button.

      Note: If you enter the Licence Suspension Date and Duration (in months) the system will calculate the Re-Instated date automatically. If Licence Suspension Date and Re-Instated date are entered, the Duration will be automatically calculated.
    6. Click the Insurance Lapse button to manage lapses for this driver.

      Click the Add button  to add a new insurance lapse to this driver. Enter the insurance lapse Date, Duration of the lapse (in months), Re-Instated date of the insurance and select a description reason for the lapse.

      Note: If a driver has had an insurance lapse, remember to enter all convictions and licence suspensions associated with the lapse.

      To delete a lapse, select a lapse and click the Delete button .

      Note: If you enter the lapse Date and Duration (in months), the system will calculate the Re-Instated date automatically. If lapse Date and Re-Instated date are entered, the Duration will be calculated.
    7. Click the Fraud / Misrep. button to manage fraud / misrepresentations for this driver.

      Click the Add button to add a new fraud / misrep to this driver. Enter the Date and Description for the fraud / misrepresentation.

      To delete a fraud / misrepresentation, select a fraud / misrepresentation and click the Delete button .
    8. Enter the Date of Birth / Age of the driver along with Licence Date / Years for the Licensing information.

      The Date of Birth / Age, and Licence Date / Year fields are required to be entered in order to process the quote.
    9. Click the Licence Details button to enter the Graduated and Other Licensing information along with any driver training completed by the driver.
    10. Click the Misc. Vehicle Details button (where applicable) to enter Motorcycle Insured Information, ATV Insured Information, Snow Vehicle Insured Information, Other Insured Information and Miscellaneous Vehicles Group Plans.
    11. Enter the Insurance Details information for the Continuous insured Date / Years, Company Insured Date, Current Carrier, Brokerage Insured Date and Owner /Principal date if applicable.

      Note: Filling out the Company Insured and Brokerage Insured fields may generate additional discounts with some carriers.
    12. Enter the Grid Level Relevant Date and Grid Level (Alberta only).
    13. Click the Renewal button to select carriers to quote as renewal policies.
    14. Select the Occupation for the driver and enter the Date hired. If the driver is Full Time (where applicable) or Retired check the applicable checkboxes. If the driver is a student away at school enter the distance from home to the school in the Kms field.

      Note: Occupations that may affect the premiums are Retired, Farmer, Clergy, and Student (away at school).
    15. If applicable, click the Student Information button to enter Student Level / Status, and enter the distance between the school and where the vehicle is kept. Check the Post Secondary Degree checkbox if applicable.
    16. Select the Member Plan Description, enter the Members Number, and select the Members Date if the driver has group plans or memberships. All carrier group tiers defined in the group plan you selected are applied to the appropriate carriers on the quote and are quoted simultaneously.

To add an additional driver to the quote, click the Add button .The Co-Applicant’s name defaults for the driver if a Co-Applicant exists on the client.

To delete a driver from the quote, select a driver in the Drivers list, click the Delete button and click Yes on the pop-up message to delete it.  

  1. Click the Assignment tab to see a quote and driver assignment overview with the information entered for this quote. The Quote Assignment section displays the vehicle, the garage location, the coverage, as well as the drivers assigned to each vehicle (the same information can also be accessed from any tab on the underwriting screen by clicking Quote > Quote Profile).

    The Driver Assignment section displays the list of available vehicles, available Drivers, and Occasional Drivers along with the name of the Principal Driver. Driver(s) listed in the Available Drivers list must be assigned as Principal, Occasional or Exclude driver to at least one vehicle.

    You have the following options to complete your driver assignments:  
  1. Click Quote on the options bar or Quote > Process Quote on the menubar to proceed with the quote.

    If there is information that is required to proceed with the quote that is missing, the Validation tab displays with the information that needs to be filled out. Missing information that may affect the rating if left blank displays on the Validation tab.
  2. The Premium Summary screen displays with the Summary section showing all company quotes.

    The following information displays in the columns on the Premium Summary screen:
  1. Click on the company name on the Premium Summary screen or in the list of companies that displays on the left side of the screen to see the quote details for that company.

    The Carrier Detail screen for the selected company displays the details of the quote.

    Note: If there are Policy and/or Risk related messages that pertain to this quote for the selected company, a Message section displays below the Rates section. It is important to review them since they contain important information regarding the quote. For example, a risk may not qualify even though a quote was generated with the company; the messages displayed here will tell you whether or not they qualify.

Completed quotes can be modified in the following ways:

  1. You have the option to complete the CSIO application with Applied Rating Services by doing the following:
    1. Click the Auto App button on the options bar to launch the Supplementary Data screen.

    2. On the CSIO tab, click on each section of the CSIO application to fill out the necessary information.

      On the Modify Quote tab, click on a vehicle listed in the treeview list to display its quoted details. Modify the vehicles quoted details as necessary.

    3. Click Print when you are ready to print the completed CSIO application.

      Click Save & Exit to save the changes you made on the CSIO and/or Modify Quote tabs.

      Click Cancel to close the screen—your change will be lost.
