Contact Classifications Configuration

You can create contact classifications to group contacts who share similar roles, memberships, or other traits. For example, you can create classifications such as HR Representative, Licensed Plumber, Group Dental, etc. Users can then add active classifications when creating contacts, or add them to existing contacts in Contact detail. When applied to contacts, classifications can help users narrow results in targeted reports or distribute marketing campaigns (for any report with marketing options except the Contact List and Employee List reports). Users can also associate classifications with activity categories to populate Who to Contact fields on activities automatically (rather than simply using the primary contact on an account).

When you enter the description for a classification, use a consistent naming convention that users will find intuitive. If necessary, you can inactivate contact classifications. Inactive classifications are no longer available for selection when users add or edit contacts, but they remain on contacts to whom they have been previously assigned.

In this area, you can configure and manage your organization’s contact classifications. The History section of this screen indicates the user who entered and last updated the selected classification and when.
